MBSE Collaboration with SysML 2.0: A Pre Release Investigation from A&D PLM Action Group

K/L

In 2024, the Aerospace and Defence (A&D) PLM Action Group’s Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Working Group undertook its Phase 5 investigation, evaluating Systems Modeling Language (SysML) 2.0 as a mechanism for enhancing MBSE collaboration across the A&D industry. Comprised of leading A&D companies, the group assessed whether SysML 2.0 represents a significant advancement over SysML 1.x in enabling more efficient model collaboration and if these improvements are substantial enough to encourage widespread industry adoption.

The investigation involved detailed analyses of the SysML 2.0 specification identifying benefits and gaps. A set of collaboration scenarios were developed to explore potential ways SysML v2 could be rolled out in an organization through different collaboration scenarios.

Key findings from this Phase 5 report, including the opportunities and challenges associated with SysML 2.0 adoption for the A&D sector, will be presented at GPDIS 2025. The working group invites feedback from conference attendees and the wider systems engineering community on this investigation to help shape future efforts. Additionally, the topic for the group’s Phase 6 investigation, which commenced in early 2025, will be introduced during the presentation.
