The process of tracking production parts has become cumbersome and tedious in the manufacturing setting. Current documentation processes involve paper and human-based methods, with manufacturing technicians manually entering information on internal systems, resulting in a high number of errors and decreased efficiency. The goal of this technology is to provide an automated input process that will scan subsystem part information and convert this information into a digital, computer-readable format. This system encourages a high level of traceability, creating a process that can be enhanced for continuous improvement and applicable to a wide range of use cases within the manufacturing setting. By leveraging optical character recognition (OCR) and machine intelligence, we are able to read serial numbers off of parts that allow for the automation and standardization of configuration management outputs. With this technology, we will be able to increase productivity and highlight constraints in our manufacturing processes.
